Dr. Pennell is a professor of medicine and director of the lung cancer program at the Cleveland Clinic Taussig Cancer Institute, where he also serves as Vice Chair of Clinical Research. He received his MD and PhD from the University of Florida before completing his residency at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in 2005 and then his fellowship training at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute in 2007. 

Dr. Pennell’s research interests are in clinical trials of novel agents and in studying the value of biomarker testing for patients with lung cancer. He has been principal investigator on a number of clinical trials and is the national study chair for the ECOG-ACRIN 5181 phase 3 trial in locally advanced non-small cell lung cancer. He also serves on a number of editorial boards and is the editor in chief of the ASCO Educational Book.
