Dr. Yoon is an internationally recognized expert and clinical investigator in gastroesophageal cancer. As enterprise co-leader for the Gastrointestinal and Hepatobiliary/Pancreatic Cancer Research Program and enterprise vice-chair of the GI Cancer Disease Group at the Mayo Clinic

Comprehensive Cancer Center, Dr. Yoon helps provide strategic leadership for scientific, practice, and educational activities across the three national Mayo Clinic destination sites (Minnesota, Arizona, Florida) and Mayo Clinic Health System.

The theme of Dr Yoon’s research career has been to develop genomic/molecularly-informed therapies in GI cancers tailored to an individual’s tumor and host environment. He leads an R01-funded clinical/translational research program from the U.S. National Institutes of Health/National Cancer Institute that seeks to enhance cooperativity of immunotherapy with anti-angiogenic and other therapies.

He (co)leads multiple investigator-initiated and Industry-sponsored Phase 1-3 clinical trials. He is frequently invited to speak at internationally attended scientific conferences sponsored by the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) and European Society of Medical Oncology (ESMO) and to serve on global advisory boards of pharmaceutical/biotechnology firms to guide innovation in drug development. He serves on the guidelines panel of the U.S. National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) for esophageal/gsatroesophageal junction and gastric cancer.
